Occurrence mechanism of "Cochlo"red tide
What kind of bloom occur.
Various kinds of nutrients effective for growth of red tide causative phytoplankton
tend to increase in coastal areas and inner bays through inflow of river
water containing domestic waste or industrial discharged water and also
through elution of the nutrient from bottom sediment containing much amount
of organic substances. If environmental conditions, such as water temperature,
salinity and day time length, become optimum, phytoplankton growth accelerates
considerably. Furthermore, if grazing zooplankton in a certain enclosed
area, water color often changes usually due to pigments of the phytoplankton
and then people call discolored water as a red tide.
